Dopo cinquant’anni di carriera, i The Cure vincono il loro primo Grammy. La 68ª edizione dei Recording Academy Awards ha regalato al mondo della musica una notte densa di significati storici, anche se molti dei premi più rilevanti sono stati assegnati lontano dai riflettori della cerimonia televisiva, durante la tradizionale premiere ceremony, andata in scena nelle ore precedenti allo show principale.
Il momento più simbolico dell’edizione 2026 è stato senza dubbio quello dei The Cure che, dopo oltre cinquant’anni di carriera, hanno conquistato i primi Grammy della loro storia. La band di Robert Smith ha trionfato nelle categorie Best Alternative Music Performance con il brano Alone e Best Alternative Music Album con Songs of a Lost World, un riconoscimento tardivo ma potentissimo per uno dei gruppi più influenti del panorama rock mondiale.
Assenti alla cerimonia i The Cure hanno voluto ringraziare fan e collaboratori attraverso un messaggio firmato da Robert Smith, sottolineando il valore collettivo di un premio che arriva dopo decenni.
Tra i grandi nomi premiati spicca anche Joni Mitchell, che ha aggiunto l’undicesimo Grammy alla sua leggendaria carriera vincendo il Best Historical Album con Joni Mitchell Archives – Vol. 4: The Asylum Years (1976–1980). Accolta da una standing ovation, l’artista ha ricordato quel periodo come una fase di transizione cruciale, successiva al declino del folk travolto dalla British Invasion, dichiarandosi profondamente onorata per il riconoscimento.
Nel panorama rock-industrial, i Nine Inch Nails hanno conquistato il Grammy per la Best Rock Song con As Alive as You Need Me to Be, brano tratto dalla colonna sonora di Tron: Ares. Si tratta del terzo Grammy per la band e del quinto complessivo per Trent Reznor, già più volte premiato anche per il suo lavoro nel cinema.
Grande spazio anche alle nuove generazioni del rock. I Turnstile, tra i nomi più acclamati della scena hardcore contemporanea, hanno vinto Best Metal Performance con Birds e Best Rock Album con Never Enough. Il premio per la Best Rock Performance è andato invece a Yungblud per la sua interpretazione di Changes, eseguita durante il concerto Back to the Beginning. Nel suo discorso il giovane rocker inglese, accompagnato sul palco anche da Sharon Osbourne, ha dedicato il premio a Ozzy Osbourne, definendolo una guida fondamentale per la sua crescita personale e musicale.
