Spencer Davis aveva fondato la band nel 1963 ed ebbe un grande successo grazie a singoli come "Keep on Running", "I'm A Man" e l'indimenticabile "Gimme Some Lovin'". Il chitarrista aveva formato la band assieme al grande Steve Winwood alla tastiera e voce (diventato poi leader dei Traffic) e al bassista Muff Winwood.
